We took a squad of 15 over for the game with
everyone realising that Sheffield in particular would be a tough
nut to crack. Lewis Curtis our first choice goalie was unavailable
and so Callum Sutton a new recruit and volunteer as goalie stepped
up, and played exceptionally well throughout, in particular he has
a quick eye and was making accurate clearances to the halfway line,
and at one point noted the opposition goalie off his line and took
a shot on goal from inside his crease. He was well wide, but it
was a good spot.
Cheadle had a bare ten players including
a number of youngsters they were easily beaten by Sheffield in the
first game and then faced us. We took control of the game from the
start with Rick Sharples dominating the face in the first half.
At half time Rolo pulled our more experienced players to allow them
to rest for the Sheffield game, and tested our younger and more
inexperienced players. This allowed Cheadle to get back into the
game, and the second half was more evenly matched but with us maintaining
control.
The final score was 9 -2 Scorers
Teigan Bancroft 3, James Hackett 3, Sam Bailey 1 and 1 assist, Shaun
Heggs 1, Rick Sharples 1 and 2 assists, Josh Hanley 1 assist
In the game against Sheffield their additional coaching sessions
showed through. Although they did not out play us at any skill level,
their set plays and positioning was superior and it showed. They
also had three big lads able to run through our defence which is
always a problem in a no take out game.
Our lads played hard and competed
right through to the final whistle and despite being 5 goals down
at half time without reply finished the match at 7 - 2. Special
mention must be made of Both Callum Sutton and Charlie Nicholson
- Cocker for their work in this match. Our scorers were Sam Bailey
1 and Richard Sharples 1, a spectacular effort, shot as he hung
half upside down after being knocked flying by a falling defender.
Sean Heggs 1 assist.
